Shashi Prakash Goyal’s experience in PMO and Presidential Secretariat brightened his chances

IAS officer Shashi Prakash Goyal has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh. This decision marks a significant shift in the state's top bureaucracy, especially ahead of the upcoming panchayat and assembly elections. The state now gears up for a politically charged electoral season. Goyal is said to be Yogi’s most trusted officer, having worked closely with the CM for nearly eight years. His selection reflects a strategic choice. His no-nonsense work ethic, experience in PMO and Presidential Secretariat, track record in infrastructure, education, health, aviation and importantly, ties with senior central officials including in the Home Ministry pushed his prospects. A 1989-batch IAS topper, Goyal is regarded as fearless, sharp, and influential in both state and central corridors. He is known to resist political pressures. He is expected to serve till January 31, 2027, but with assembly elections due in April-May 2027, a service extension is likely. While taking over as the Chief Secretary, he thanked CM Yogi and outlined his vision of zero tolerance, zero crime, zero corruption, and rapid industrial growth.
