CETA between India and UK to be operationalised by Christmas

India and the United Kingdom took a significant step toward enhancing their trade and investment partnership during a bilateral meeting between Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and UK Business and Trade Secretary Peter Kyle in Mumbai. The focus was on operationalising the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and resetting the Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) to oversee its implementation. Both ministers underlined their commitment to a swift, coordinated, and results-driven rollout of CETA to maximize benefits for businesses and consumers in both countries. The agreement, signed in July 2025, eliminates tariffs on 95% of Indian exports to the UK and aims at doubling bilateral trade from the current $56 billion to $112 billion by 2030. Discussions also emphasized boosting collaboration in advanced manufacturing, digital trade, clean energy, and services. With the operationalisation expected before Christmas, this will mark a transformational phase in India-UK economic relations, promising expanded opportunities and stronger business ties
