whispers in the corridors
Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Maharatna CPSU under Ministry of Power, Government of India, has acquired 2 TBCB (Tariff Based Competitive Bidding) project SPVs, namely “Vindhyachal Varanasi Transmission Limited” & “SR WR Power Transmission Limited” for the execution of TBCB projects worth Rs. 3,375 Cr. (NCT estimations). The SPV “Vindhyachal Varanasi Transmission Limited” has been acquired from the BPC PFC Consulting Limited on 16th Oct 2025 for the execution of the project “Inter-regional (NR-WR) Transmission System strengthening to relieve the loading of 765 kV Vindhyachal-Varanasi D/c line”. The project comprises establishment of new 765 kV Sub-Station at Prayagraj and 765 kV D/c Transmission Lines traversing in the state of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. This transmission scheme shall help in resolving critical loading of 765 kV Vindhyachal-Varanasi D/C line in ‘N-1’ contingency condition and further for evacuation of power in respect of Pump Storage Projects (PSPs) located in Uttar Pradesh. The SPV “SR WR Power Transmission Limited” has been acquired from the BPC REC Power Development & Consultancy Limited on 17th Oct 2025 for the execution of the project “Inter-Regional Strengthening between SR Grid and WR Grid”. The project comprises 765 kV D/c Transmission Lines traversing in the state of Karnataka & Maharashtra along with associated line bays at both ends. This transmission scheme shall help to facilitate integration of additional RE potential in Southern Region in general and Bidar PS in particular and further enhancement of import / export capability of SR Grid. The acquisition of these two TBCB projects will strengthen India’s power transmission network by enhancing inter-regional connectivity. These projects will help decongest heavily loaded transmission corridors, improve power reliability, and facilitate seamless transfer of renewable energy across regions. Additionally, they will support the evacuation of power from upcoming Pumped Storage Projects, contributing to India’s clean energy and grid stability goals. POWERGRID, through its SPVs, is actively implementing various transmission projects under the build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) model, furthering India’s commitment to a sustainable energy future. These projects are instrumental in supporting the national goal of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based generation capacity by 2030, reducing dependency on fossil fuels, and integrating renewable energy into the National Grid. As of 30th September 2025, POWERGRID has commissioned and is operating 286 Sub-stations and more than 1,80,864 ckm transmission lines and 5,81,831 MVA of transformation capacity. With the adoption of the latest technological tools and techniques, enhanced use of automation and digital solutions, POWERGRID has been able to maintain an average transmission system availability of more than 99.80%.
