ALIMCO elevated to Schedule ‘B’ status under CPSE classification framework (UPDATED)

The Government of India has approved the upgradation of Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) from Schedule ‘C’ to Schedule ‘B’ under the Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) classification framework, in accordance with the prevailing guidelines of the Department of Public Enterprises, Ministry of Finance.

This strategic elevation acknowledges ALIMCO’s sustained financial robustness, strengthened operational architecture, disciplined governance framework, and its expanding national footprint in delivering assistive solutions. The reclassification reflects the Corporation’s consistent performance trajectory, enhanced net worth position, and its growing institutional relevance in advancing inclusive development through structured implementation of welfare programmes for Divyangjan and Senior Citizens. It also highlights the Government’s sustained commitment to strengthening institutions that work towards the welfare, rehabilitation, and empowerment of Divyangjan and Senior Citizens.

With Schedule ‘B’ status, ALIMCO will operate with enhanced delegated financial authority and higher capital expenditure approval thresholds as per Government norms. The expanded mandate is expected to streamline decision-making cycles, accelerate technology absorption and modernisation initiatives, optimise infrastructure investments, and reinforce production scalability. The upgradation further strengthens organisational agility within the established regulatory framework, enabling structured expansion, improved capital planning, and reinforced accountability mechanisms.

Speaking on the achievement, Praveen Kumar, CMD, ALIMCO said, “The elevation to Schedule ‘B’ marks a significant inflection point in ALIMCO’s institutional journey. It is a recognition of our operational discipline, financial resilience, and unwavering commitment to inclusive service delivery. The enhanced delegation and governance capacity will enable us to scale innovation, deepen outreach, and strengthen our execution capabilities in the assistive technology ecosystem.”

Beyond a change in classification, the upgradation signals growing confidence in ALIMCO’s role within the assistive technology ecosystem. It places greater responsibility on the Corporation to innovate, expand its reach, and contribute meaningfully to inclusive development. The development reinforces national efforts to ensure dignity, independence, and social inclusion for Divyangjan and elderly citizens, in line with the Government’s broader vision of an accessible and empowered India.
