NLCIL celebrates 17th Public Sector Day (UPDATED)

NLC India Limited (NLCIL) observed the 17th Public Sector Day today at its Corporate Office in Neyveli with a ceremonial event highlighting the industrial prowess of the nation. The Public Sector Day is observed annually under the aegis of the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) to raise awareness regarding the pivotal role Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) play in scripting the economic growth story of India. The proceedings commenced with the hoisting of the PSU and NLCIL flags by Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD, NLCIL, in the presence of functional directors Dr. Suresh Chandra Suman (Mines), Samir Swarup (HR), and Rajesh Pratap Singh Sisodia (P&P), alongside senior officials and representatives from various unions, associations, and federations.

Addressing the gathering, Prasanna Kumar Motupalli took pride in the massive scale of the public sector, noting that more than 450 PSUs are currently functioning in the country with an investment exceeding 100 Lakh Crores. He emphasized that these enterprises generate a staggering revenue of Rs. 38 Lakh Crore and contribute Rs.5 Lakh Crore to the national exchequer. Beyond financial metrics and a collective profit of Rs.8 Lakh Crore, the CMD highlighted the social commitment of PSUs, which collectively spend Rs.8,000 Crore toward Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives to support community development.

Reflecting on NLCIL’s specific journey, the CMD said “NLCIL’s first Thermal Power Station was dedicated to the nation in 1962 by India’s first President, S Radhakrishnan. NLCIL has set ambitious targets to triple power generation, double mining production, and increase renewable energy capacity sevenfold. This expansion is supported by a planned investment of Rs.1,25,000 Crore, which means the company intends to match the total capital expenditure of the last 70 years within the next 4 years alone. Market capitalization has also increased 5 times in the last three years. Achieving these targets are challenges we have to face with dedication and integrity. So, on this Public Sector Day, let us all take a pledge work with commitment to excellence and safety.”

The CMD congratulated "Team NLCIL" for making the 2025-2026 financial year a "Golden Year" in the company’s history, characterized by all-round excellence in Mining, Power, Renewable Energy, HR and finance. He urged the employees to continue their work with a pledge of commitment to safety and integrity.

The celebration, which underscored NLCIL’s trajectory toward new heights of excellence, concluded with the rendition of Vande Mataram and the National Anthem.
