"Energy Security and Viksit Bharat Top Agenda at PM Modi’s Extended Council Meet" (UPDATED)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a comprehensive four-and-a-half-hour meeting of the Union Council of Ministers on May 21, 2026, at Seva Teerth, New Delhi. The session served as a mid-term performance review, with nine ministries — including Agriculture, Power, Commerce, External Affairs, and Road Transport — presenting detailed reports.

Discussions centred on energy security amid West Asia tensions and rising crude prices, supply chain resilience, inflation management, and accelerating reforms for 'Viksit Bharat 2047'. PM Modi urged ministers to “forget the past, focus on the future,” prioritise citizen-centric governance, ease of living, and direct communication of achievements. The meeting, the first major full review of the year, has sparked speculation about a possible cabinet reshuffle ahead of the government completing 12 years in June.
