whispers in the corridors

From road safety to environmental campaigns,Narmadapuram is witnessing several community driven initiatives driving positive change. At the helm of this is IAS Somesh Mishra, a 2013 batch Officer of MP cadre currently posted as Collector of Narmadapuram district.
One of the key initiatives under his administration is Project Suraksha, a road safety campaign started to reduce accidents and save lives. The initiative addresses common causes of road accidents through awareness drives and preventive measures.
A key focus has been on tractor-trolley,for which reflective radium strips were made mandatory on tractor-trolleys to improve visibility during night time and foggy conditions. Additionally, Slow Moving Vehicle(SMV) signage was also mandated further reducing the risk of rear-end collisions.
The administration also promoted helmet use, seatbelt awareness and CPR training to help citizens respond effectively during emergencies.Through slogans such as “Radium Lagayein, Jeevan Bachayein” the campaign transformed road safety into a public movement rather than merely an enforcement exercise.
Another notable effort is Neer Pakheru Abhiyan, an environmental awareness campaign launched during the summer season to support birds affected by extreme heat. The initiative encouraged schools, government offices and residents to place water bowls and grain containers in public spaces.Along with providing relief to birds, the campaign also aims to create greater environmental sensitivity especially among children and young students. As the Neer Pakheru Abhiyan aptly puts it "प्यासे पंछियों को पानी पिलायें, आओ इस आदत को संस्कार बनाएं" (Come, let us water the thirsty birds, let this habit become our culture.) Additionally use of reusable containers and earthen pots promoted sustainability and social effort.

What stands out is the participation at the local level. Instead of relying solely on administration, the campaign promotes ordinary citizens, schools and institutions to become active contributors.
IAS Somesh Mishra simple yet effective initiatives are encouraging collective responsibility and fostering more informed and aware citizens.
