whispers in the corridors

The Government has approved a major revision in the cadre structure of the Directorate of Enforcement (ED), significantly increasing the number of posts across its Executive, Legal, and Adjudication wings. In the Executive Cadre, the number of posts for Director and Special Director of Enforcement will remain unchanged at one and seven respectively. However, the strength of Additional Directors has been increased from 10 to 24, while the number of Joint Directors has gone up from 28 to 49. A substantial rise has also been approved in middle and lower-level positions. The number of Deputy Directors and Assistant Directors has been revised from 148 and 255 to 267 and 531 respectively. Similarly, the strength of Enforcement Officers has increased from 355 to 606, while Assistant Enforcement Officers will now number 803 compared to the earlier 425 posts.
The Legal Cadre has also seen a significant expansion. The number of Additional Directors (Prosecution) has been increased from one to seven. Posts of Deputy Legal Adviser and Assistant Legal Adviser have also been raised from seven to 18 and from 18 to 36 respectively. In the Adjudication Wing, the post of Special Director (Adjudication) remains unchanged at one. However, strength has been revised at several levels. The revised strength now includes two Additional Directors, three Joint Directors, five Deputy Directors, and 10 Assistant Directors in the Adjudication Wing, where there were sanctioned posts earlier.
