whispers in the corridors

In the shadowy world of digital deception, where financial frauds, fake identities, and transnational networks threaten the very fabric of society, Madhya Pradesh Police is mounting a determined and multifaceted counter-offensive. Additional Director General of Police Intelligence and (Cyber Crime), A. Sai Manohar, has been at the forefront of these initiatives, steering the state’s response with a mix of technological innovation, aggressive enforcement, and sustained public awareness.
According to official data shared by the Madhya Pradesh Police, cybercrime complaints in the state have surged nearly fivefold between 2021 and 2025, aligning with national patterns. Alarmingly, around 80% of these complaints pertain to online financial frauds. While the volume of cases has risen sharply, the conversion into FIRs has remained comparatively modest — a gap the force is now addressing head-on.
A landmark step came on 25 December 2025 with the launch of the e-Zero FIR system. Initially covering cyber financial frauds involving losses of ₹1 lakh and above, the system aims to lower the threshold to ₹50,000. By 31 May 2026, it had generated 1,413 e-Zero FIRs. In 2025, police registered 1,378 FIRs, and by end-May 2026, an additional 501 cybercrime cases were registered.
The integration of the 1930 Cyber Helpline with the 100 & 112 emergency response, manned by 15 dedicated call takers, has streamlined complaint registration. "A specialised 5-member Cyber Fraud Mitigation Unit works round-the-clock to freeze fraudulent accounts and enable recoveries. An MP Police officer’s deputation at the Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre (I4C), New Delhi, has further strengthened coordination", revealed ADG Sai Manohar.
These measures have yielded impressive results and action on defrauded money rose from 11% in 2023 to 22% in 2025, and reached 30.55% in the first four months of 2026. Consequently, Madhya Pradesh has improved its national ranking from 22nd to 5th. Madhya Pradesh is praised for large-scale hybrid training of officers — and the piloting of the "Cyber Tehsil" concept for decentralised handling of cases.
