whispers in the corridors
With the landmark India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) officially coming into force on July 15, 2026, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has reported a significant surge in inquiries from Indian traders eager to establish a commercial footprint in the United Kingdom. This enthusiasm marks a strategic shift for the Indian business community, which is increasingly viewing the UK as a vital, high-value alternative to traditional markets that have become volatile due to rising protectionist measures and recent US tariffs.
Industry experts observe that this "big window" of opportunity is being aggressively pursued, with business back channels between the two nations now effectively "turbo-charged." These forums are working overtime to facilitate B2B matchmaking, navigate the new regulatory landscape, and help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) leverage the zero-duty access now available for nearly 99% of Indian exports to the UK. As Indian firms look to de-risk their global supply chains, the operational ease and tariff relief provided by this new pact are acting as a powerful catalyst, transforming bilateral trade aspirations into immediate, on-ground expansion plans across British markets.
