Ankit Jaiswal IPS: From Rescue Operations at Railway Stations to Action Against Crime

In a series of operations targeting missing persons, kidnapped children and vulnerable individuals at railway stations, Ankit Jaiswal IPS during his tenure as SP Railways, Bhopal, oversaw several recovery and rehabilitation initiatives with a swift and humanitarian approach. Recently appointed Superintendent of Police, Harda, Jaiswal is a 2017-batch IPS officer of MP cadre.

One of the major initiatives undertaken during his tenure was Operation Hamdard, a campaign aimed at identifying homeless and destitute people at railway stations and facilitating their rehabilitation and reunion with families. A particularly sensitive case involved a one-month-old girl found abandoned near the auto stand at Bhopal railway station in July 2026. Through CCTV footage, technical investigation and public outreach, the GRP traced her parents after 11 days. Legal action was initiated, while the Child Welfare Committee was to decide the child’s future.

The wider month-long campaign conducted in July 2026, identified 2,057 vulnerable and unattended people across the railway jurisdictions of the GRP Bhopal, Indore and Jabalpur units. The initiative combined digital identification with efforts to reunite missing people with their families and connect those in need with assistance.

Additionally, during January 1 to October 22, 2026 police records also reported 4,990 crimes, recovery of property worth ₹5,00,16,152 (approximately ₹5 crore), recovery of 1,135 mobile phones and execution of 275 permanent warrants. These figures reflect the wider enforcement responsibilities involving crime detection, property recovery and execution of court-issued warrants.

Earlier as SP, Neemuch, Jaiswal also oversaw a swift response to the abduction of a six-year-old boy from Ratangarh in September 2024. The child, taken while sleeping near his family, was recovered within six hours. Police also rescued a three-year-old girl in a separate abduction case within four hours, demonstrating the importance of rapid mobilisation and focused investigation in crimes involving children. His Neemuch tenure also saw action against narcotics networks, police seized more than 22 quintals of illegally cultivated cannabis plants in five operations. Another operation in Manasa uncovered synthetic drugs, intoxicating tablets and chemicals allegedly used in drug manufacture. The broader district figures for 2024 and 2025 record 139 and 148 NDPS cases respectively, with 320 and 382 accused arrested.
