Keel Laying ceremony of MPV built for M/s Navi Merchants (UPDATED)

The Keel Laying Ceremony of the Second ship (Yard 21002) of the 7500DWT Multi-Purpose Hybrid Vessel (MPV) project for M/s Navi Merchants, Denmark, being built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL), a Navratna DPSU was held at MDL's North Yard on 17 Nov 2025. The commencement of the production activity for this vessel was held on 16 Oct 2024. Biju George, Director, Shipbuilding presided over the Keel Laying function in the presence of Simon Rodian Christensen, CEO, M/s Navi Merchants along with senior officials from M/s Navi Merchants, the Classification Society (DNV) and MDL. As per the contract signed between MDL and M/s Navi Merchants, MDL will design, build and deliver Six Multi-Purpose Vessels. The contract price of each vessel is approximately 14 MUSD. The overall length of this Multi-Purpose Dry Cargo ship is 116.2m with a dead weight of 7500T.  The vessel is with Hybrid Propulsion System and will be capable of attaining the speed of not less than 11.0 knots with shaft generator power take off of about 85 kW. The vessel will be built under survey and certification with rules of Det Norske Veritas (DNV) classification society.  Today’s Keel laying ceremony marks a significant milestone in the construction of the series of vessels being built under this export order by MDL.
