Constitution benches to address pendency

In Courts, Pendency increased by 510 cases in January 2026, reaching 92,828 in the Supreme Court, a trend continuing from 2025. CJI Surya Kant has prioritised this, with speculations on Constitution Benches to address it. The Press Information Bureau highlighted the e-Courts project’s progress, including digitisation of over 637.85 crore pages of court records and expansion of e-filing and virtual hearings. This is part of Phase III (2023-2027) with a Rs. 7,210 crore outlay.
