Former Supreme Court Judge Justice (Retd) Krishna Murari Joins Vantara Council
In a major push to institutionalise governance and statutory compliance, former Supreme Court Justice Krishna Murari has been appointed as a key voting member of the newly established Independent Governing Council of Vantara, Reliance Industries' sprawling animal rescue and rehabilitation centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
This appointment forms part of Vantara’s broader initiative to elevate its operational transparency and align its conservation protocols with international standards. Chaired by John E. Scanlon AO, former Secretary-General of CITES, the autonomous council provides top-tier oversight across rescue operations, animal welfare, and legal compliance. Justice Murari, who retired from India's apex court in July 2023 after a distinguished judicial career, brings crucial constitutional expertise to enforce strict institutional accountability.
The council also integrates globally recognized figures, including the Association of Zoos and Aquariums executive Craig Hoover, wildlife crime expert Greta F. Iori, former Chief Wildlife Warden Subhash K. Malkhede, and veterinary specialist Dr. Kushal Konwar Sarma. By placing supreme judicial authority alongside international wildlife leaders, Vantara’s newsy strategy focuses on bolstering public trust, addressing regulatory scrutiny, and establishing an independently audited benchmark for private animal conservation and care sanctuaries in India today.
