India Energy Stack Taskforce sets out pathway for national rollout
New Delhi: The India Energy Stack (IES) Taskforce met in New Delhi to review its Final Report for setting out the strategy, architecture, governance framework and pathway for scaling IES as a digital public infrastructure for India’s power sector. The report brings together design, development and pilot implementation since the Ministry of Power constituted the Taskforce in June 2025.
Jitendra Srivastava, CMD, REC Limited, delivered the welcome address. Prince Dhawan, Executive Director, REC, and Mrs Swetha Ravi Kumar, Executive Director, FSR Global, presented the Final Report, followed by a roundtable discussion among Taskforce members. Dr. Ram Sewak Sharma, Chairperson, IES Taskforce, outlined the way forward. Shashank Misra, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Power, concluded the meeting.
The India Energy Stack is a common set of open standards and protocols that enables utilities, system operators, regulators, market participants, innovators and consumers to securely exchange data and interact through common digital rails, while allowing existing systems to continue operating.
IES follows a “Register, Discover and Exchange” framework, enabling secure, standardised data exchange across the power sector. It provides verifiable digital identities, helps systems discover and authenticate each other, and facilitates data sharing through common schemas and digital credentials. IES has been piloted across six utilities in five states: Tata Power Mumbai, APEPDCL, DGVCL, PVVNL, BRPL and TPDDL. Consumers can access digital energy credentials through DigiLocker, while peer-to-peer energy transactions have also been demonstrated.
Led by REC Limited under the Ministry of Power, with FSR Global as Knowledge Partner, IES specifications are publicly available. The Taskforce has recommended wider adoption, stakeholder readiness and an institutional mechanism for maintaining standards and certifying compliance.
