India mobilizing Its diplomatic backroom engine for a UNSC seat?

To secure an influential non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2028–29 term, the Indian Foreign Service has activated a dedicated operational war room alongside intense global backroom diplomacy. Facing key regional rivalries, notably competing against Tajikistan for the single Asia-Pacific seat, New Delhi is leaving nothing to chance.

Indian diplomats are strategically targeting key regional voting blocs, including the Global South, African nations, Small Island Developing States, and members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. This campaign, anchored under the SHANTI initiative (Securing Holistic Advancement through Norms, Trust, and Integrity), focuses on establishing multi-tiered bilateral alignments well ahead of the June 2027 General Assembly vote.
