Warning signs for BJP in Rajasthan after local body polls?
The recent Rajasthan civic polls have yielded unexpected results, shaking up traditional political bastions. Out of the 10,235 declared wards, the BJP secured the highest overall tally with 4,179 wins, followed by the Congress with 3,613 victories.
Crucially, Independent candidates emerged as significant players, capturing 2,273 wards and becoming decisive kingmakers across several urban local bodies. The Congress successfully breached key BJP strongholds, securing a notable 29-13 victory in Jhalawar and winning 29 wards to the BJP's 21 in Pali. Meanwhile, Independents dominated Bharatpur, taking 36 of the 65 available wards. These shifting dynamics highlight the growing influence of local factors and independent voices in the state.
