POWERGRID enhances sustainable mobility at AIIMS, New Delhi (UPDATED)

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable development by donating three state-of-the-art, air-conditioned electric buses to the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. The buses were ceremonially flagged off by R K Tyagi, Chairman & Managing Director, POWERGRID, and Dr M. Srinivas, Director, AIIMS, in presence of senior dignitaries of POWERGRID, including Dr. Yatindra Dwivedi, Director (Personnel), Vamsi Rama Mohan Burra, Director (Projects), Jasbir Singh, Executive Director (CSR) along with senior officials from POWERGRID and AIIMS. The introduction of these air-conditioned buses having features like pushback seats for enhanced passenger comfort, a wheelchair and a hydraulic lift, shall ensure seamless access for differently abled passengers, while easing internal traffic congestion and lower carbon emissions. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance the patient-care ecosystem at AIIMS by promoting comfort, accessibility, and environmental responsibility. POWERGRID has been consistently contributing towards society with its CSR initiatives across the country.  POWERGRID has been undertaking construction of several Vishram Sadans in premier medical institutions across the country. Today, total eight Vishram Sadans are functional currently in AIIMS, New Delhi, KGMU, Lucknow, IGIMS, Patna, DMCH, Darbhanga, Guwahati Medical College & Hospital, Assam, SSG Hospital, Vadodara, NIMHANS, Bengaluru, RIMS, Ranchi. Another six are under construction at MKCG Berhampore, Odisha, Maharani Laxmibai (MLB) Medical College, Jhansi, UP, Sub Divisional Hospital, Areraj, Bihar, MPT Medical College & Hospital, Siddharth Nagar, UP, AIIMS Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, AIIMS, Gorakhpur, UP. POWERGRID has played an important role in the field of rural development, education, healthcare, skill development, environment, drinking water, water conservation and sanitation by contributing to economic and social development across the country with its CSR initiatives. As on 31st August 2025, POWERGRID commissioned and operated 286 Sub-stations and more than 1,80,864 ckm transmission lines and 5,77,331 MVA of transformation capacity. With the adoption of the latest technological tools and techniques, enhanced use of automation and digital solutions, POWERGRID has been able to maintain average transmission system availability of 99.84%.
