CBDT Chairman Ravi Agrawal, a 1988-batch IRS (Income Tax) officer, is scheduled to retire in June 2026. Three other Members of the Board are also superannuating this year. RaviAgrawal is unlikely to receive a further extension, and it is too early at this stage to predictthe name of the next CBDT Chairman .Who will succeed him? At least six senior IRS officers are in contention. The final selection is likely to depend on seniority, superannuation dates, the government’s administrative and tax reform priorities, and the need for organizational continuity within India’s tax administration structure. Pankaj Mishra is said to be ahead.
