SAIL achieves multiple best-ever milestones in H1 FY27

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has delivered a remarkable performance in the first half of FY27 (April-September 2026) and in September 2026, achieving several best-ever milestones across production, sales and efficiency parameters. The Company’s focus on operational excellence, high-end steel output and financial discipline has resulted in sustained growth and improved competitiveness.

SAIL recorded its best-ever April-September performance in the first half of FY27, with hot metal, crude steel and finished steel production reaching 10.2 MT, 9.6 MT and 8.39 MT respectively. The output grew 2%, 1% and 1% over the corresponding period last year.

The share of finished steel in total saleable steel production improved to 89.2% from 86.8%. High-end steel production touched a record 2 MT, registering 30% growth. Iron ore production rose 13%, while sales surged 190% to 2.671 MT. Dispatches of long rails and wheels and axles to Indian Railways increased 7% and 3%, respectively.

Specific energy consumption improved to 6.17 G.Cal/tcs, the best-ever H1 performance. SAIL also reduced inventory by around 0.145 MT and borrowings by approximately ₹1,080 crore during the period.

In September, the company recorded its highest-ever monthly saleable steel sales at 1.69 MT, up 4% year-on-year. SAIL SeQR TMT bar sales crossed 1.5 lakh tonnes, while Tier-II retail sales grew 3%. Iron ore sales rose 134% to a record 0.492 MT.

SAIL also reduced inventory by 0.192 MT and borrowings by about ₹208 crore during September. Chairman and Managing Director Dr AK Panda attributed the performance to the workforce’s focus on efficiency, innovation and sustainable growth.
